Wilson's fame travelled to America in 2014 when she starred on Showtimes The Affair. She performed the role of Alison Lockhart, a young woman with a troubled relationship with her past, and is drawn to Noah Solloway. Wilson received a Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a Television Series Drama, alongside Mauratierney and Joshua Jackson. Wilson said in British Vogue, "I loved getting to portray an actor who could be both sides of this story." Noah believes Alison as a confident sexy version. She sees her own self in a totally different way. In the inner Alison isn't confident and would rather blend in with the background. She added "I think America is such a moralistic nation and they're too critical. The way they conduct themselves on the show is like a shocking scene." Wilson quit the show, which was a shock to viewers. But Wilson did not provide further details. In a CBS This Morning Interview in August of 2018, Wilson stated, "I did want to leave, but I'm not able to talk about the reason for it." Wilson recently changed her focus to films. Wilson was a part of the film of horror I Am the Pretty Thing Who Lives in The House in 2016 and then in the sci-fi rom-com How to Talk to Girls at Parties in which she played the mysterious PT Stella. In addition the horror credits to her Wilson is also set to appear in the British film adaptation to The Little Stranger. The supernatural thriller was adapted from a Sarah Waters' novel. Wilson is also the producer of the film.
