Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress, who is employed in the fields of film, television and theatre. The most famous of her roles is Teri Joe, the flamboyant lawyer on The Showtime series Soul Food. In the years following her marriage, she is also known by the name Nikki Kodjoe. Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an aptitude for acting in her childhood and received an award for the best Actress award in a Maryland high school contest. Contractor, born from Mumbai in India and grew up in Nigeria up until she turned seven. She was already exposed to numerous travel experiences and different cultures at a very early age. She was a boarding student in London between the ages of seven and nine years of age, and then her family moved to Toronto, Canada, where she lived for the bulk of her childhood and young adulthood. Contractor was a successful academic throughout her time in Toronto in addition to her training as ballerina. At the Etobicoke School of the Arts (a public high school specializing in the arts) she studied dance and theatre. Contractor aged 16 at the time she realized that acting would be her career. Dance was her passion for a decade. When she graduated from high school she accepted a full grant to attend at the University of Toronto, where she completed a masters degree in theatre and a double major in psychology and sociology. Contractor landed her first role in the midst of her university year. Her performance received rave reviews. her performances in the 92 shows performed the play was voted"the best show of 2002" by Canadian critics in 2002. The opportunity was presented to her to join Stratford Conservatory. The school allows only eight males as well as four female students for a crash course in traditional theatre.
